As a municipality that actively promotes the SDGs, the City of Yokohama was selected as an SDGs Future City by the government in 2018. In terms of policy, the City of Yokohama maintains an awareness of the SDGs in all of its initiatives.

As iniciativas SDGs de Escritório de Naka Ward

Promoting local production for local consumption at the SDGs Marche!

The Naka Ward SDGs Marche is held in principle on the second Wednesday of every month in the parking lot next to the Naka Ward Office Annex, where vegetables and other products grown in Yokohama are sold directly and community workshops sell sundry goods.
Promoting local production for local consumption leads to a reduction in the environmental burden associated with transportation and helps to revitalize the local economy. We also promote the reduction of food loss by selling food that is still good to eat but would otherwise be thrown away.

SDGs initiatives of companies

Thoughts on the SDGs

Waste management is a business that has a strong affinity with the SDGs. In recent years, the SDGs have become one of our guiding principles as we are called upon to undertake environmental initiatives that go beyond the waste treatment business. We will continue to take on new challenges as a company by creating initiatives to not make waste and reduce waste after treatment, with all employees playing a role in promoting the creation of a Sound Material-Cycle Society.

Our SDGs initiatives

Naka Ward Loss Flower Project

Loss flowers are flowers that are discarded when they are still beautiful. At Hello Yokohama 2022 (a community festival held in Naka Ward), businesses and organizations in the city, mainly from within the ward, donated kudzu vines cut down from parks, loss flowers from hotels, corks from restaurants, and lace scraps from businesses to create one-of-a-kind wreaths.

We interviewed members of Nijiiro Tankentai* who participated in the workshop.

*A volunteer group formed by graduates of a study support class for junior high school students with roots overseas held at Naka International Lounge. The group works to provide a welcoming place for young people to come and spend time, and runs activities to encourage them to express themselves and participate in the local community.

- Support companies and organizations that are actively working on the SDGs.
- Participate in SDGs events.

Summary

Why not start by taking an interest in the SDGs, and begin making efforts to achieve them in your daily life?

It gets dark early in December. Since visibility becomes poor in the early evening, when people are still out and about, traffic accidents are most likely to occur at this time of day as cars, bicycles, and pedestrians are slow to spot each other.
Elderly people in particular need to be careful. Try to avoid going out at dusk, observe traffic rules and manners, and make sure you are safe.

Although it varies from person to person, more and more people over the age of 75 are experiencing a decline in their driving skills, such as steering wheel and brake operation.
In light of the further increase in the number of elderly drivers in the future, the Road Traffic Act, which was revised in May of this year, introduced a driving skill test for drivers aged 75 years and older with a history of certain violations at the time of license renewal.

Your body changes as you age. Please drive reasonably according to your health condition.
1. Avoid driving if you are not feeling well.
2. Look to the left and right to check visually whether it is safe to proceed.
3. Always stop and check whether it is safe to proceed even on familiar roads.
4. Drive with a relaxed mindset.
