➁Looking out for People with Dementia in the Community

Dementia is a condition that can affect anyone. As the population ages and the number of people with dementia is expected to increase, it is even more important to have a proper understanding of dementia along with the cooperation of those around you.
Vamos pensar como criar um ambiente no qual você e a sua família podem viver com a paz de espírito mesmo se você ou um membro da sua família sofrerem da demência.

We asked people in the community what they had to say!

Dementia Supporter Company Yamamura Shoten, 1-7 Yamamoto-cho

Since there are many elderly people in the area, the entire shopping district took a dementia supporter training course. When I see a customer who is trying to buy something that is not what they are looking for, or who is trying to buy the same thing several times, or who is having trouble paying the bill, I ask if they are alright and talk to them. There are many elderly people who live alone, so when they pass by the store, I pay attention to them and keep an eye on everyone in the community.

What is a Naka Ward Dementia Supporter Company?

Dementia Supporters are companies and organizations in the ward that have taken the Dementia Supporter Training Course to learn correct knowledge about dementia and how to interact with people with dementia. They will make use of what they have learned in the course to keep a friendly eye on the community.

Masae Oba, Caravan Mate

You may be able to spot someone with limited mobility if you see them on the street using a cane or wheelchair, but you may not always be able to recognize a person with dementia. I believe that we are better placed to help if we have the knowledge to look out for people with dementia, talk to them, and connect them with specialist organizations. Also, the knowledge gained in the course can be applied to work and daily life, so I am working to make as many people as possible aware of dementia.

What are Caravan Mates?

Caravan Mates are volunteers who act as instructors for dementia supporter training courses. They hold courses in local communities, companies, schools, etc.

Registration system for persons with dementia who are at risk of going missing

Registration for SOS Network for Elderly Persons with Dementia, etc.

This is an initiative aimed at finding and protecting people with dementia and other conditions who have gone missing, with the cooperation of relevant local agencies. It is based on a system for pre-registering information (physical characteristics, etc.) on persons with dementia who are at risk of going missing.

Stickers for monitoring vulnerable people in the community

These stickers (with a QR code) are attached to the clothing of people with dementia. In the event that a person with dementia goes missing, their identity can be confirmed using the data registered to the sticker, allowing them to be returned to their home as soon as possible. The stickers are distributed to those registered with the SOS Network.
